A very belated Fathers Day recap

Hannah and I came up with a poem to help Daddy find his present. "Good morning Daddy, we have good news, to find your present, follow the shoes!"

And the shoes lead Daddy out of bed, down the hall, down the stairs, through the house, out the back door, down the deck stairs and to the driveway. Behold! Daddy's present was a custom made cover for his 1949 Chevy truck. Happy Fathers Day!

I must admit that I have gotten a little push back from friends and family that this Fathers Day gift was as much for me as it was for Chris, since now I don't have to look at the rotting piece of metal in our driveway - and while that's true, let the record show that I was more concerned that the truck was going be a total lost cause before Chris got around to it. He has got so many projects going on in the house right now - I wanted to take some pressure off this one. Happy Fathers Day sweetheart.

Cupcakes at Daycare

In honor of Hannah's birthday, I brought cupcakes to her daycare. We did it a little early this year because of the holiday and we wanted to make sure there were at least a few kids around to share in the sugar... ahem... I mean celebration.

The cupcakes, as you can see, were a huge hit. And since there were not very many kids at daycare that day - each kid got TWO cupcakes. I pause to apologize to the parents. Sorry, my bad.
"Why is Sam crawling on the ceiling?" - Dad
"I'm not sure, he's been wired since I picked him up at daycare." - Mom

Hee hee.

I had enough cupcakes left over so I could do a glamour shot at home. I know, I'm a dork. I just love the cupcake picks - they double as paper clips and they perfectly match the hula theme. Yes, yes I am well aware that I have crossed over into new dork territory. Thank you for your concern.

Parade

We invited Hannah's best friend from preschool and her little sister (Sierra & Dakota) to enjoy the parade this year.

I neglected to mention to Sierra's Daddy how much WORK it is to enjoy the parade in our town. We're going to just sit in our chairs in the shade and watch the parade go by... Right? Wrong.

First, you and the children have a dodge the unbelievable amount of candy, business cards, flyers, balls and small toys that are hurled at you from every float.

Then you have to make sure that the little ones in all their excitement do not run into the street to retrieve the aforementioned goodies and get hit by a car or tractor or motorcycle moving at about 5 miles per hour (not enough to kill you - but it would definitely leave a mark).

So as a matter of safety, YOU (as the responsible adult that I KNOW you are) need to retrieve the goodies from the street while dodging the cars/tractors/motorcycles and keeping an eye out for the next batch of candy being thrown from the next float.

All the while, it felt like it was about 125 degrees that day - I might be off by a degree or two.

All in all, the girls had a great time and that's what counts. Sierra's Daddy may have needed a nap once he got home, but at the least the girls got an overflowing bucket of candy to remember the parade.

I had to include this cute shot of Hannah cooling off after a long day of parading.

Stranded at the Drive In...

"...Branded a fool. What will they say, Monday at school?" ~ Danny in Grease

For those of you who live in the Charlotte area, did you know that there is a drive in? I think it is new - Chris stumbled across it in one of the region's magazines. Go to Charlotte's Drive In for more information.

They show two movies each night and offer a very limited concession stand. I would suggest you bring your own popcorn, because they only sell candy. That is if you like popcorn, I'm just sayin'. Our plan was to watch the first movie with Hannah - "Marmaduke" and she was SUPPOSED to magically fall asleep between movies so Chris and I could watch "Get Him to the Greek" - NOT a kids movie. Good plan yes? Yeah, No.

Hannah would not fall sleep, Hannah could not fall asleep. Hannah would not fall asleep on my lap, Hannah would not fall asleep in a snap. She would not sleep in the car. She would not sleep out of the car.

But did she fall asleep about three minutes into our drive home? YES. I guess "Get Him to the Greek" is going on the Netflix queue. Sigh.

The Show

"Yeah, I was in the show. I was in the show for 21 days once - the 21 greatest days of my life." ~ Crash Davis in Bull Durham.

So here are the pictures from Hannah's recital. I loved the backstage photo I took last year, so I tried to replicate it this year. I can't believe how tall she is getting!

The girls did a good job on their routine. Things fell apart in the middle when the girls were supposed to hold hands and turn in a circle two times and then break apart into two lines and then grab their respective partner and come up the middle (see it's even hard for me to explain verbally). This part of the routine has always been a challenge throughout the year - I think the teacher was a little over-ambitious. Although, I must say that the confusion that ensued onstage was priceless.

After all of the routines and before the finale, the dance school put together a little slideshow. Here are the slides that Hannah was in:

The last two slides were taken the day it was "beach day" at dance class. The girls were asked to wear things they would take to the beach. Hannah is in a bathing suit and a pink hat. When I saw this picture with Hannah's hat pulled down on her head, I immediately thought of "Dumb Donald" from Fat Albert:

Did y'all know his name was "Dumb Donald"? Yeah, me neither. Ahhhh, the seventies, so free with the malicious adjectives.

The theme for the recital this year was "Legends". Hannah's routine was to James Taylor's "How Sweet It Is To Be Loved By You". We agree that James Taylor is a living legend - he is one of our favorites.

Hannah did a great job with the mini-routine for the finale. And it was nice that she was in the front so we could see her. Overall, it was a delightful afternoon watching our little pixie perform. Supa Star!
